History
In 2022, a fire severely damaged the historic Hiram Lodge building, raising concerns about the future of this architectural landmark at the heart of Chestnut Hill’s “Main Street.” Originally completed in 1889, the building is a notable example of Romanesque Revival architecture, featuring a hipped roof, two front-facing cross gables, an arched entrance, and two storefronts.
Our Involvement
This project involves removing a non-historic pent roof above the storefront windows and restoring the Wissahickon schist facades on both the storefront’s front and side elevations. The restoration will reflect the building’s historic design, informed by archival photographs and established preservation standards. All existing windows, doors, and storefront systems will also be replaced.
The building will be renovated for mixed commercial and multi-family residential use, with upgrades to ensure full accessibility. Enhancements will include the addition of an elevator, stair tower, and accessible entrances to the first-floor retail spaces. All work will be completed by Regan Kline Cross (RKC).
