Our client’s goal was to build an addition for an aging parent that would allow both independence and closeness. We designed a comfortable single-story addition on the rear of the family’s house, with access from the main house or from the private entrance off the patio. The entrance space contains a stacked laundry, a kitchenette, and an office nook. Beyond, there is a bedroom/sitting room with windows on three sides. The bathroom’s accessible features include a walk-in shower and grab bars where needed. For more on how this project came to be, see our post on aging in place. Just for fun, checkout the time-lapse video on this page of the addition being built.
